s'Cool Food
The Mission of the s’Cool Food Initiative is to empower school districts in Santa Barbara County to implement and sustain nourishing cook-from-scratch food programs by:
- Providing education and training opportunities for school communities
- Providing strategic resources
- Increasing public awareness of the links between real food and health, and
- Working for national level reform
The s’Cool Food Initiative has been diligently working at reforming school lunch programs in school districts county-wide with:
- Culinary Bootcamps, which are week long, intensive trainings for school cafeteria workers to implement scratch cooking;
-
Junior Chef Days, which engage children directly in the preparation of a school-wide meal; and
-
s’Cool Gardens, which teach children about the process of growing food while meeting state educational standards.
